In case of non-accessibility to the superficial veins of the upper limb, ultrasound guidance allows the positioning of peripheral accesses in the form of cannulas inserted in the deep veins of the arm or forearm.
Although it is possible to use an ultrasound guided short cannula, these do not guarantee duration of more than 24-48 hours. It is therefore advisable to use mini-midlines.
