In the presence of an obstruction of the superior vena cava (documented by a CT scan), there is a contraindication to the placement of a CVC in the superior cava district (either CICC or PICC) and therefore a FICC (Femorally Inserted Central Catheter) is used.
To avoid an exit site in the inguinal area, the FICC must be tunneled, moving the exit site upwards (in the abdominal area) or downwards (above the knee)
