In the stable newborn, even if preterm, after a few days (and in any case within a week) it will be necessary to remove the UVC and plan a new venous access, depending on the expected duration of infusion therapy. In particular, it will be evaluated if the access is likely to remain for a limited period (< 14 days) or longer (> 14 days). In the first case, it will be sufficient to insert an epicutaneous-caval catheter (ECC), in the second case, it will be wiser to insert an ultrasound-guided central venous access (CICC or FICC).
