In the case of DIVA, ultrasound guidance allows the positioning of a peripheral VAD in the form of cannulas inserted in the deep veins of the arm or forearm.
Although it is possible to use ultrasound guided short cannulas, these do not allow duration of more than 24-48 hours. It is therefore advisable to insert ultrasound guided long peripheral cannulas (mini-midlines).
